Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnap kingpins said to be terrorising the people of Oru Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Dasuki Galadanchi, told our correspondent on Friday that the arrest of the suspects was an indication that the command was working day and night to ensure that the festive period remained crime-free in the state.
The CP said that the suspects, Ibe Christopher, and Chukwudi Chukwuka, were arrested at Awo-Omama in the Oru East Local Government Area of the state on December 24 by the F-SARS operatives led by the Commander, Geoffrey Victor.
Galadanchi disclosed that the arrest of the suspects was sequel to the rescue of some kidnap victims and arrest of some hoodlums on December 19.
The CP said, “On December 19, we arrested some kidnap lords and rescued their victims. The breakthrough gave us the information which led to the arrest of these two suspects on December 24.
“At Umuezukwe village, Awo-Amama, in the Oru East LGA of Imo State, F-SARS operatives led by the Commander, Geoffrey Victor, arrested two kidnap suspects and recovered their victim’s black SUV Mercedes ML 450.
“The two suspects arrested are Ibe Christopher and Chukwudi Chukwuka, both of Umuezukwe village, Awo-Ammma in the Oru East LGA of Imo State.
“It is important to note that the recovered vehicle was secretly parked in a car park with a well secured door lock in a story building in the named community. Suspects have confessed to the crimes.”
Galadanchi called on residents of the state to keep sharing information with the police, even as he said that community approach was the best way to prevent and control crime.
