AFCON 2019: The Super Eagles got off to a winning start against Burundi in their campaign in Alexandria.
Nigeria got the better of the Swallows by 1-0 in their opening Group B game courtesy of an Odion Ighalo strike in the 77th minute.
Gernot Rohr's men laboured hard to finally get an opening in the Burundian defence before getting all three points.
Legit Sports have picked four players who were outstanding in the opening fixture against the east Africans.
1. Samuel Chukwueze
It did not look like the youngster was making his debut in the AFCON tournament as he became a thorn in the flesh in the Burundian defence.
The Villarreal winger made menacing runs down the right and almost got his name on the scoresheet but wasted a glorious opportunity set up by Alex Iwobi in the first half.
2. Ola Aina
Having missed out at the Russia 2018 World Cup, Aina has returned to Rohr's squad a better player following his impressive loan spell at Torino.
The left-back was on point with his runs down the left flank, closing the spaces and joining the attack when the Super Eagles needed to push forward.
Aina's back-heel pass to Ighalo made the difference in the match, which showed his attacking instinct for his country.
3. Ahmed Musa
Something was lacking in the Super Eagles attacking third on the left wing, which was occupied by Arsenal star Iwobi.
Musa's introduction added more bite into the final-third and the Burundians had a lot to do in stopping the Al Nassr forward.
4. Odion Igahlo
The Shanghai Shenhua striker proved why his seven goals in the AFCON qualifiers was not a fluke as he came on and made the difference.
Ighalo's finish with less than 13 minutes to play in the match was top-notch and the game needed only a brilliant move, as Nigeria to sealed their first win.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that John Mikel Obi against the Super Eagles during the AFCON 2019 Group B tournament in Egypt.
The three-time African champions defeated the Swallows by a 1-0 courtesy of an Odion Ighalo's strike in the 77th minute.
