Valedictory court session: I'll serve humanity till I die - Bulkachuwa

The president of the Court of Appeal, Zainab Bulkachuwa, on Friday, February 7, officially retired from her office and service in that capacity.

Bulkachuwa's retirement ceremony coincided with the commissioning of the reconstructed and furnished official quarters build for judges of the appellate court in by the state government under Governor Nyesom Wike on Friday.

Speaking on how she will spend her life after retirement, the outgoing judge said that she will apply all that have been learnt through the long years of active service.

Bulkachuwa stated that she will devote her time service humanity both in and wherever she finds herself.

She said that one of her greatest achievements will be to being remembered as a woman who judged right and did the best she could with utmost love for her country.

Recounting the bitter experience of losing her husband, Bulkachuwa said that the lose tore her apart, adding that the scar of that pain will remain with her till the time of death.

Bulkachuwa said: "The death of my husband tore my world apart. This tragedy hit me really bad. I scaled through the moments of despair with the help of my extended family and friends. The deep scars of his death will follow me for the rest of my life.

"My life has been awesomely phenomenal. I was born at a time when it was difficult for girls to go to school and even when they did, they were not allowed to go beyond primary school level before being married off. I was lucky to have a father who had an interest that I be educated. I was married twice to supportive men who encouraged me to be the best and assisted me to my successes."

Delta state commissioner for information, Charles Aniagwu, revealed this on Tuesday, November 17 while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state’s Executive Council meeting in Asaba.

He said that the state government had approved residential apartments for judges that would serve in the court, explaining that it was one of the conditions for approving the court to be in the state.
